Fisherman, 60, killed as line snags high-power cable

AN angler was fatally electrocuted on Sunday when his wet fishing line made contact with a high-voltage power line, police said yesterday.

The 60-year-old surnamed Chen was fishing on a river in Chenjiazhen Town on Chongming Island when the incident happened. As he cast out his line, it touched an overhead power line and created a circuit. Witnesses said they heard a loud crack and saw fire and smoke coming from the line. One of them contacted the emergency services, and police and an ambulance arrived soon after. A doctor announced that Chen was killed by a massive electric shock. Police later issued a warning to all anglers to be wary of overhead power lines when fishing on local rivers.
