Flat owner must restore illegal changes

HUANGPU District Housing Management Bureau has ordered a flat owner who made illegal alterations to a renowned and protected building on Ruijin No. 2 Road to make good the damage she has caused.
The restoration will be made under instruction from historical building protection and housing structure experts.
The owner of a top-floor flat in the three-floor brick-wood building, surnamed Lu, put skylights on the roof, built an illegal structure on the balcony and destroyed ceiling beams.
The construction work has already been halted, and the building’s property management company has issued a notice to the owner asking for restoration.
The district housing management bureau and urban management officials later informed Lu of the requirements of historical building protection — no change is allowed to the structure of the building and only changes to internal decoration are permitted.
Lu was ordered to fill in the skylights, dismantle the illegal balcony structure and restore the beams.
The urban management authority also put the case on record and launched an investigation. Both the housing and urban management authorities are tracking the progress made.
