Food Chain Used Out-Of-Date Ingredients
THE Shanlin Prepared Food, a popular food store chain in the city, was found to be using expired seasoning in its products, a local quality watchdog said yesterday.
The Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision made the discovery at the company's plant in Jinshan District during a regular inspection over the weekend. The plant was dirty, with all kinds of seasoning piled up on a table, said inspectors.
The label on a box of soya sauce showed the best-before date was December 24 last year, but it was still being used, officials said.
Officials ordered Shanlin to stop manufacturing and address production problems.
