Food supplier beefs up its manufacturing operation
A Shanghai food company in Songjiang District will install surveillance cameras to supervise its entire manufacturing process after it was found to have problems in labeling and management on food additives, Shanghai’s food watchdog said yesterday.
Pinshang was one of two suppliers to a Jono chain restaurant in Hunan Province. Beef steak at the restaurant was found to contain duck meat. Shanghai Pinshang suspended operations during the investigation.
No duck was found in Pinshang’s beef steaks, but its labeling and management of food additives was not up to standard, according to Shanghai Food and Drug Administration.
Songjiang FDA is conducting a thorough check on the food company, which will install surveillance cameras once production resumes after the authorities give it the all-clear.
It has also been ordered to use GMP, or good manufacturing practice, standard when it resumes operation.
The standard includes good manufacturing equipment, standard manufacturing procedure, complete quality management and a strict testing system.
Shanghai’s dairy companies have all achieved GMP management, and this would gradually apply to food manufacturing firms, the administration said.
