Foreign teen warned over graffiti
A TEENAGER, who painted graffiti in a subway train, has apologized after being caught by Metro police.
The Metro operator said the teenager was a foreigner but refused to reveal his identity. He faced potential charges of vandalism and violating Metro regulations but was allowed to go with just a warning.
He will, however, have to foot the bill for the cleaning job.
The teen painted the graffiti on a Metro Line 9 carriage on Saturday. It showed a half-naked man sitting cross legged with bleeding eyes. Below the picture was written: “Have no plans for me. I will set my soul on fire,” — the lyrics from the song “Ode to Sleep” by American band twenty one pilots.
Surveillance camera showed that the teenager got on the train at Yanggao Road M. Station at about 5:10pm. The graffiti was done in the last carriage.
The Metro operator was tipped off about the graffiti when the train reached Zhaojiabang Road Station.
The train, which was scheduled to return in the opposite direction, was instead sent for cleaning after it reached the terminal at Songjiang South Railway Station.
Metro police tracked him down and “educated” him about his behavior. But the operator said a bill would be sent to the parents as the painted graffiti was “hard to clean.”
The teenager has since apologized for his behavior and written a letter, promising not to do it again.
