Foreigner said to have disarmed knife-wielding attacker on Nanjing Road

A man was taken into custody by police after allegedly injuring two people with a knife on Shanghai's crowded Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street this afternoon.

Witnesses told local media that a traffic assistant and a passer-by had been injured.

An online video said to have been taken by a witness showed a man identified as the attacker putting up little resistance when subdued by police officers responding to the scene.

A passer-by told Shanghai Daily that a foreigner managed to grab the attacker's knife before police arrived.

Both victims were being treated at Changzheng Hospital and were not critically injured, local media reported.
