鈥楩ox Hunt鈥 bags target in Malaysia

CHINA’S “Fox Hunt 2015” netted its latest target yesterday when a man accused of committing a 6-million-yuan (US$965,000) tax fraud was escorted back to Shanghai.
The suspect, identified only as Guo, was captured earlier this month at his home in Malaysia following a joint operation by local police officers and their counterparts from Shanghai.
Guo is alleged to have swindled more than 6 million yuan from his employer between 2011 and 2012 by claiming VAT refunds on items that were never actually purchased. He fled to Malaysia in 2012.
Shanghai police said yesterday they had worked with local officers to surveil Guo’s home in Malaysia, and on June 5 raided the property and apprehended the suspect.
Fox Hunt 2015 is an international manhunt for Chinese citizens suspected of economic crimes or corruption. Guo’s is the first case in which Shanghai police were directly involved in the apprehension of a suspect on foreign soil.
