Free surgery to remove burn scars from a hero

GUAN Liping, who was named one of the ten Shanghai heroes last year for his brave act, received free surgery today to remove burn scars incurred when he rescued a neighbor from a kitchen fire.
The accident happened on February 15 last year. Guan, a driver for a delivery company, was sleeping when he heard the cry of his neighbor, whose kitchen was set ablaze by a leaking liquefied gas tank.
He rushed to cover the burning tank with a wet quilt and pulled it outside to prevent fire from spreading. In the process he got burned in both arms and the neck, and burnt injury covered 14 percent of his body.
Shanghai Huamei Plastic Surgery Hospital, which provided the free surgery, said Guan’s treatment will be done in two steps, first medication to heal the scars and then surgeries to remove the scars.
