French student issued internship permit
CHARLES Vanoverschelde became the first French student to get an internship work permit under an agreement signed by China and France last year.
He picked up his work permit, tagged “intern,” and residence permit from the employment center of the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau yesterday.
Vanoverschelde, who is a junior student at a business school in France, will work in the product quality department of the Camaieu Apparel (Shanghai) Co, a French company in Shanghai, from July.
In November last year, China and France signed an agreement to promote friendship between the two countries and enhance international exchanges among students.
Under the program, 1,000 students from both the countries will take part in the program every year.
There are three other French students applying for work permits under the program, said Cai Donghai, the director of employment affairs office for foreigners.
French students, who have completed two years in a university, or those who have graduated from French or Chinese universities within a year, are eligible to apply under the program.
Applicants can apply for internships themselves or look for internship options on www.newjobs.com.cn. The employment center will also ask companies to list internship posts on the site.
Cai said Shanghai tends to attract young foreigners as a host of international companies have set up bases here.
