A former cargo port on the Yangtze River in Baoshan District is set to be transformed into a residential development and marina, the local government announced yesterday. The Shanghai No. 1 Long Island project will span 1.8 kilometers of the riverbank and is expected to cost 15 billion yuan (US$2.4 billion) to develop. Among the highlights of the scheme will be a riverside promenade and a 160-meter-high viewing tower.
