Fugitive on 鈥榬ed notice鈥 returns to city

ONE of Shanghai’s most-wanted fugitives has turned himself in, Shanghai People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
Zhang Jun had fled to Australia and was suspected of bribery. He returned to Shanghai after being in hiding Down Under since April 2014.
Zhang was persuaded to return to Shanghai on Wednesday, prosecutors said.
The amount of the alleged bribes wasn’t disclosed as a further investigation was under way.
Zhang was wanted as part of the “Sky Net” anti-graft campaign, started in April 2015, to repatriate fugitive officials. He was also tagged with an Interpol “red notice” that named Chinese economic fugitives who had fled overseas, prosecutors said.
Shanghai prosecutors have now captured or concluded investigations into 18 suspects wanted in the “Sky Net” campaign, including two on the “red notice” list, prosecutors said.
There were a further 20 fugitive officials who had fled overseas and were still wanted by Shanghai prosecutors, five of whom are on the “red notice,” the prosecutors added.
