Fury over long Disney queues
Shanghai Disney Resort has agreed to compensate visitors who queued for up to four hours to get into attractions, only to be told that they were closed for maintenance.
Five of the park’s attractions, including the popular Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, were closed on Saturday night, according to Shanghai Television Station.
Many frustrated visitors complained to management.
“Why did they not inform us in advance instead of letting us line up for so long in vain?” said a visitor surnamed Liu from northwest China’s Gansu Province.
“Many of us were waiting with empty stomachs for the Roaring Rapids, but the staffers were only selling bottle water beside the line,” said another visitor surnamed Liu.
He and other angry visitors later demanded that the resort provide an explanation and refund their tickets, which cost 499 yuan (US$74).
“From time to time it is necessary to temporarily close some experiences for reasons, including maintenance, operational requirements and unforeseen circumstances,” the resort said in a reply to Shanghai Daily yesterday.
“Offering a wide range of attractions and entertainment with something for everyone is a priority for Shanghai Disney Resort,” it added, but it declined to comment on the “individual guest’s claims.”
The resort turned down the refund requirement but agreed to give the visitors one-day tickets that can be used on any date within a year.
