Gaming fair bigger, but less risque
ORGANIZERS of ChinaJoy, Asia’s largest gaming and digital entertainment fair, plan to expand the exhibition area for the annual event, which this year will also feature videos, music, comics, animation and online literature.
The four-day fair, also known as China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference, will launch on July 28 at Shanghai New International Expo Center.
The exhibition area will be expanded to 140,000 square meters, 20,000 square meters more than last year, to accommodate more exhibitors and its broader entertainment focus.
Gaming giants, including Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft, Ubisoft and Tencent, will showcase their wares at the fair, which is expected to attract more than 300,000 visitors.
Those expecting to find scantily-clad showgirls at the fair this year may be in for a disappointment, as a strict dress code will be enforced, according to Howell International Trade Fair Co, the company behind the annual event.
“The specific rules are still under discussion. But if there’s any change, it will only be stricter,” an officer with the company, Wang Feng, told Shanghai Daily.
In 2015, the company announced that model agencies whose employees reveal too much skin during the exhibition will be fined up to 10,000 yuan (US$1,500) per offense.
