TEACHERS and students at Shanghai Jianqiao University have donated more than 200,000 yuan (US$32,250) to help cover the medical costs of a classmate diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukemia. Wu Jiawei was diagnosed with the disease last month, and has to pay 7,000 to 8,000 yuan per day to cover his hospital bills. As well as the donations, the university has exempted Wu from his tuition fees for one year. The young student has completed his first course of chemotherapy and will begin a second soon.
