German resident fuels change
GERMAN Ralph Huhndorf, who lives in the Pudong New Area, takes time off from his busy schedule as a company executive to do volunteer work in his neighborhood.
Since last year, the 58-year-old has been tirelessly working to keep his residential complex in Zhoupu Town, where he has been staying since 2014, clean and tidy.
Come rain or shine, before and after work, he is out there every day picking up trash and trimming bushes.
The complex was dirty and messy due to management issues. There was also a lack of awareness regarding volunteer work. But things are different now around the No. 13, 14 and 15 buildings.
“We all want to live in a clean environment. So I clean the neighborhood every day. I hope every dweller can enjoy good mood,” Huhndorf said. “I’ve seen some of my neighbors chuck trash from above into the bushes, posing dangers and destroying the environment.”
According to local officials, some of the residents have now joined him in his efforts, and learnt to sort out garbage.
“I will keep doing volunteer work,” Huhndorf said.
