Get ready for a festival of festivals
A VARIETY of tourism events including food, light, music, sports and art events will be featured during the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival in September and October, the city’s biggest tourism extravaganza, authorities said yesterday.
In total, 23 foreign troupes will participate, and performers from Egypt, Israel, and Croatia will debut, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said.
The festival will run between September 9 and October 6, and scenic spots across the city will offer half-price tickets.
More than 30 performance troupes and 25 floats will stage a grand parade along Huaihai Road M. at the opening ceremony.
Music concerts, cycling events, marathons, bazaars and a shutterbug contest will be held along the Huangpu River during the festival, according to the administration as the city government plans to open up 45 kilometers of waterfront by the end of the year.
About 100 tourists are expected to experience the city’s historical sites recording the Chinese revolution on foot in a walking tour on September 16.
In Xintiandi, a music festival themed “the charm of the Silk Road” will be staged from October 1-5, and bands and artists from countries along the Silk Road will perform during the festival.
A sparkling wine festival will be held at the Jing’an Park between September 8 and 10 with tasting events, while the Hengfu Art Festival in Hengshan Road and Fuxing Road M. area will feature jazz music, street performances and gallery and cafe activities.
The Shanghai Disney Resort will stage Halloween activities, and a light music festival at the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone.
A group wedding blending traditional Chinese rituals and culture will be held at Fengjing Water Town.
Shanghai Happy Valley will invite about 20 top magicians from across the world to perform close-up magic during the National Day holiday and a magic competition will be held.
The tourism festival also includes a music festival in Zhujiajiao Water Town, a dragon and lion dance culture festival on Sanlin Old Street, a comedy art festival in Jing’an District, a German beer festival in Changning District, a seafood festival in Jinshanzui fishing village and a forest tourism festival in Chongming District.
