Giant waves prompt orange alert
CHINA’S marine forecast station yesterday issued an orange alert as a powerful typhoon generated giant waves.
Waves of up to nine meters have been seen in the East China Sea under the influence of Typhoon Vongfong and a strong cold front from west China. Forecasters said waves up to 10 meters high will form in the East China Sea. The Diaoyu Islands will see waves as high as six meters today. High waves will also lash the coast of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shanghai, Liaoning, Hebei, Tianjin and Shandong. The center has warned vessels to take full precautions.
