Gubei gets broadband early nod
ABOUT 150,000 cable television subscribers in Changning District will be among the first in Shanghai to enjoy broadband service with speed up to 30 megabits per second, the Changning government said yesterday.
By the end of 2010, Shanghai will complete the overall conversion of digital cable television for 2.5 million cable TV subscribers in the central city.
About a half-million subscribers will get 3TNet broadband technology as the basis for the next generation of radio, television and Internet delivery, Changning officials said at a press conference.
The early batch of 150,000 subscribers will be centered in the Changning community of Gubei.
Gubei has been a pioneer in the use of 3TNet. In 2007 Gubei set up a medical information network to connect second-level medical institutions, community health centers and community sanitation service spots.
