HR boss held over salary delays
THE owner of a human resources company in Minhang District has been arrested for allegedly refusing to pay over 600,000 yuan (US$94,500) to contracted workers, police said yesterday.
The 146 workers, who work for a beverage manufacturer and are registered with the HR company, have not received salaries or social insurance since May.
The suspect, a man surnamed Qiao, reportedly used the company funds to clear his personal debt, police said.
Qiao has been delaying payments to workers since 2013, and has been struggling with debts with his property attached to the bank after he was sued by one of his debtors.
In July, Qiao got 200,000 yuan as payment for the workers but used the money to settle his debt all at once.
Under Chinese Criminal Law, failing to pay salaries to contracted employees falls under criminal charges.
