Hacker files appeal against prison term
A COMPUTER hacker who was sentenced to 14 1/2 years in prison for stealing more than 3 million yuan (US$483,000) from online bank accounts yesterday launched an appeal against the decision at the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court.
In September, the Pudong New Area People’s Court ruled that between November 2012 and January 2013, the man, surnamed Wang, used Trojan horse programs to steal 3.2 million yuan from the bank accounts of 98 different victims.
He then transferred the money to his online gaming account, from where he was able to launder it.
