Hammer attack girl has surgery
THE 11-year-old girl who suffered a fractured skull after her stepfather hit her with a hammer is recovering in intensive care after undergoing surgery at Shanghai Children’s Hospital.
A doctor said a procedure to repair two fractures in the child’s skull was carried out between 9pm Wednesday and 3am yesterday. The operation went “smoothly” but the child, whose name has not been released, will remain under close observation, he said.
The youngster is likely to remain in a critical condition for “two to three days,” he said.
The girl suffered the crushing blow when she intervened in a fight between her mother and stepfather. Despite her injuries, the child managed to seek help from relatives living nearby.
The bodies of her parents were later found hanged in Qingpu District.
