Handset battery explodes on Line 8 train
A cellphone battery exploded on a Metro Line 8 train as it pulled into Anshan Xincun Station at 8:40am this morning, startling passengers in the carriage but causing no injuries or delays.
According to a witness, passengers on the train reported a pungent smell in the carriage. They soon learned someone’s HTC phone battery had exploded.
Also this morning, an unidentified object fell on a section of track between Shanghai Railway Station and Hailun Road Station on Line 4, leading to a delay of about 20 minutes.
The incident occurred at 8:20am. Metro workers removed the object, which the operator did not identify.
