Head out to enjoy the peonies and wisteria in all their glory
IT is the best time to appreciate peonies and wisteria, and understandably, the parks across the city were packed during the Qingming break.
Although the rains on Thursday — the first day of the festival holiday — dampened the mood of an spring outing, parks and botanical gardens witnessed big crowds on Friday and Saturday with the sun out again and pleasant weather.
Chenshan Botanical Garden recorded 52,000 visitors in two days, while Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park received 40,000.
Shanghai Botanical Garden, Shanghai Guyi Garden and Shanghai Binjiang Forest Park had 39,000, 23,000 and 13,000, respectively.
Peonies and wisteria are in full bloom. At Guyi Garden, about 2,000 peonies of around 50 varieties are in their prime. They are mainly located in the Quxiang corridor area.
They are in nine colors but mostly green, yellow, black and pink.
At the Shanghai Botanical Garden, the flowering period of peonies last till mid April. Yellow and green peonies are the rare species. There are also white, red and purple peonies.
It is the best season to visit Jiading Wisteria Park and appreciate the dreamlike purple flower. The floral show will be at its best until early May.
The park features 28 varieties of wisteria with purple and white colors.
A blue blanket covers 5,000 square meters of Gongqing Forest Park. Nemophila menziesii, commonly known as baby blue eyes, is at the heart of this forest.
Meanwhile on the weather front, Shanghai’s temperature will seesaw this week with fluctuating temperatures. Rains are expected in the second half, Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
It should be sunny to cloudy today when the temperature hovers between 26 and 12 degrees Celsius.
Tomorrow, the temperature will soar to 28 degrees with a low of 16 degrees. It should be sunny to cloudy.
Intermittent showers are forecast for Wednesday with the temperature dropping by 5 degrees.
Showers are also forecast for Thursday and Friday, while the temperature will fluctuate between 22 and 14 degrees, the bureau said.
