Helicopter firm opts to halt flights
A COMPANY that offers sightseeing helicopter flights over Shanghai has suspended operations while it awaits permission to change its routes following complaints of noise pollution from the public.
During trial flights held at the end of last month, Kingwing General Aviation Co received numerous complaints from schools and local residents.
It responded by applying to the city’s air traffic control authority to adjust its routes to avoid heavily populated areas.
It also asked for permission to fly at 300 meters, rather than 200 meters, the company told Shanghai Daily.
“We can fly now, but have chosen to wait until we get permission to change the routes,” said Liu Yanpeng, a brand manager at Kingwing.
“We want to minimize the impact on local residents,” he said, adding that the company expects to get a decision by the end of the week.
