Helping the young to find work

SIX government departments jointly released a series of measures to promote employment and startups among young people to mark China’s Youth Day today.
One of the measures is to expand the internship program for unemployed people aged between 16 and 30 to all unemployed younger than 35 and graduating students of local colleges and vocational schools.
Shanghai has been running the program since 2012 to encourage enterprises to provide internships for unemployed young people. In the past two years, the program has helped 16,000 people to find jobs.
The program is expected to help students to improve their chances of obtaining work and get a better understanding of their potential employers.
Besides the expansion of eligible people to participate in the program, the subsidies for instructors who teach the interns will also be raised from 150 yuan (US21.75) a month for each intern they teach to 30 percent of the minimum pay standard laid by the government, which will be nearly 700 yuan per month this year.
Enterprises will receive 5,000 yuan for each intern they employ.
