High-level policing for National Day holiday

SHANGHAI police will adopt high-level patrolling measures, with about 10,000 police officers to be deployed every day across the city, to ensure security during the National Day holiday, police said yesterday.

A total of 125 SWAT teams will be patrolling on city roads. At landmarks such as the Bund, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall and Lujiazui, collision-resistant barriers have been set up.

Some 35,000 police officers will be stationed at areas where landscaping lights are being illuminated, including the Bund and former World Expo site. They will conduct checks and direct crowds to ensure safety.

About 100 plainclothes will target robbers, pickpockets and scammers in downtown streets.

Meanwhile, more than 600 fire engines are standby 24/7 to tackle fire emergencies.

Security checks at Metro stations, bus stops and docks will be intensified to prevent banned items being brought onboard.

Police checkpoints will be set up at highways, elevated roads and business hubs to tackle drunk driving.
