In recent years, child molestation cases have been reported more frequently in China.
US citizen David D McMahon, an English teacher, was arrested by Shanghai police in June for abusing five French students and one Italian pupil at school. The children were 6 to 10 years of age.
Former primary school headmaster Chen Zaipeng in Hainan Province was jailed for 13 years and 6 months in June after he raped six girls aged between 11 and 14. The sixth-grade girls disappeared from school on May 8 and had injuries to their private parts when they were found at a holiday village.
In October, primary school teacher Tao Biaogong in Jiangxi Province was sentenced to 14 years in jail for molesting seven girls aged 8 to 9. Six of the girls were infected with sexually transmitted diseases.
