Holiday should also ‘include some exercise’
MORE than 500 public sports venues and community health centers will stay open during the Spring Festival holiday from tomorrow to February 2, said Shanghai Sports Bureau.
Citizens are encouraged to participate in sports activities and follow a healthy diet during the holiday, said the bureau.
Pudong’s Oriental Sports Center will have its swimming pools, basketball, badminton, table tennis and tennis courts open to the public from Monday to Thursday.
Yuanshen Stadium will make its running tracks and outdoor exercising facilities available during the holiday apart from the ball-game courts. Some neighborhood health centers and parks will offer their facilities for free at certain periods.
The list of the venues and their opening hours is available at the bureau’s official website — http://tyj.sh.gov.cn/. Citizens can also dial hotline 965365 for more information.
“Spring Festival holiday is a good opportunity for those too busy to take part in exercises in workdays,” said Liu Xin, director of Shanghai Research Institute of Sports Science’s fitness research center.
Liu said half an hour to one hour of exercise a day was recommended.
Overeating should be avoided in the holidays, Liu said, adding exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, yoga and rope-jumping could all be done at home.
