Hudec bust unveiled in Shanghai

A bust of the famous architect Laszlo Hudec, who designed many landmark buildings in the city, was unveiled at the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center yesterday afternoon.

Donated by the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Shanghai, which commissioned the Slovak Architect Society to produce it, the bust is 26 centimeters high.

For those wishing to see Hudec’s work, the Iconic Shanghai Hudec Architectural Tour, which will feature eight buildings designed by him, will take place on June 9.

Hudec came to Shanghai in 1918 and designed nearly 100 structures in the city during his 29-year stay, including the famous Normandie Apartments, the Grand Theatre and the Park Hotel.
