Huge crowds expected for auto show
PUBLIC transport authorities are gearing for a busy few days as the world’s largest exhibition complex opens its doors for the very first time tomorrow.
About 50,000 people per day are expected to attend the China International Auto Products Expo at the newly opened National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu District, the city’s Metro operators said yesterday.
Subway lines 2 and 10 are likely to see the bulk of the traffic and extra trains will be on standby for the event, which runs from tomorrow through Tuesday, they said.
Exits 5 and 6 at Xujing Road E. Station on line 2 are located closest to the center, and passenger numbers are expected to reach their peak between 7:30am and 9:30am, and 3:30pm to 5:30pm, as people arrive at and leave the show.
Extra workers will be on hand at Metro stations to aid the flow of exhibition-goers, while tickets will be sold outside stations if bottlenecks occur at ticketing machines.
Shuttle buses will also be laid on to transport people to and from Metro stations further away from the exhibition venue, the operators said.
From 7am to 10am and 3:30pm to 6:30pm, buses will depart every 30 minutes for the convention center from Shanghai West Railway Station on line 11 and Shanghai Indoor Stadium Station on lines 1 and 4. Buses will leave the north square of the exhibition center every 30 minutes between 3:30pm and 6:30pm for Hongqiao Airport Terminal 1 station on line 10, and Hongqiao Railway Station on lines 2 and 10.
People looking to avoid the crowds are advised not to travel during peak hours.
