SEVENTEEN people have been arrested for selling illegally acquired Chinese identity cards, police said yesterday.

The ID cards belonged to job seekers who were asked to deposit them at job agencies run by some of the suspects in Suzhou city, Pudong police said.

About 1,000 identity cards were seized from the gang in a raid last month.
