Illegal doctor arrested over suicide

A “SELF-TAUGHT” plastic surgery has been arrested after a patient committed suicide because she was unhappy with the results, the Pudong New Area People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
The 30-year-old patient, surnamed Liu, who lived in Luchaogang in Pudong, jumped to her death from a building on May 23.
It was reported that Liu took her own life because botched plastic surgery by an unlicensed doctor to give her “double eyelids” had left her depressed.
On February 23, Liu invited unlicensed doctor Zhou Jinxiu, to her flat and paid 1,000 yuan (US$161) for plastic surgery, said prosecutors.
But she was unhappy with the results and in a suicide note to her boyfriend said she had sought medical treatment afterward.
Zhou was held by police soon after Liu’s suicide.
Prosecutors said Zhou told police that she had taught herself some medical skills and picked up others at a relative’s plastic surgery clinic.
“I don’t think plastic surgery is very difficult. It only requires you to apply anesthetic and then thread,” she reportedly said.
