Illegal flats demolished
AN illegal building covering more than 6,000 square meters in the Pudong New Area has been demolished. It was separated into 222 small rooms and rented out under the name Taoyue White-Collar Apartments. Air conditioning, showers and cookers were installed even though the building had not passed any fire safety checks, said Pudong officials. Since May last year, nearby residents complained to the authorities about the building. But the landlords only demolished the fourth floor of the building under the order of local authorities. After negotiations lasting several months between the authorities and the building’s three landlords, financial issues were finally settled.
