Illegal wall鈥檚 defender proves fiery
A man accused of threatening to set on fire an official demolition team sent to knock down an illegally-built wall has been arrested for obstructing public affairs.
Prosecutors of Songjiang District said at about 10am on March 17 urban management officers went to a logistics park in Chedun Town to pull down the wall but were obstructed by the park’s owner surnamed Xiao.
The suspect stood in front of the wall, with an electrical kettle in his hand, they added. An urban management officer, who suspected the kettle was filled with dangerous liquid, tried to grab it. During the scuffle, gasoline leaked from the kettle.
Officers backed off and ordered Xiao to drop the kettle. He then took a barrel of gasoline from nearby and poured its contents around the demolition squad and the illegally-built wall too. He then climbed on the wall, threatening to set fire to everything and everybody, prosecutors said.
There was a deadlock for more than an hour, which ended with the retreat of the urban management officers.
The following day police went to the park and detained Xiao.
