Inmate pays for attack on guard

A man who was given a suspended death sentence 18 months ago beat a prison guard while serving the term, according to Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People’s Court.
The man surnamed Shi was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for murder in November 2015. A year later, he became involved in a dispute with other inmates.
When a prison guard surnamed Yang tried to stop Shi hurting himself, Shi punched the guard’s face, causing lip wounds.
Shi was convicted in a recent trial of disrupting the prison order. As he had expressed regret, the court didn’t cancel his reprieve. But he was ordered to spend two more years in prison.
