Jailed for hacking off trees

A DRUNK man who sawed off 50 trees with a hacksaw has been sentenced to 16 months in jail, the Yangpu District People’s Court said yesterday. When a slew of trees were found hacked, starting in March, a local landscaping firm kept a watch and found a man cutting the trees on Zhoujiazui Road on May 18. It called police, who identified the man, surnamed Zhang, as a drunkard and raided his residence, where they seized a hacksaw.
