Japan-born local boy found in city convenience store after being reported missing for nearly 2 weeks

THE local boy, who had been reported missing in Shanghai since August 8, was found in a local convenience store, police said.

The 11-year-old boy, named Qin Wenhao, was stopped and found inside a FamilyMart store on downtown Panyu Road. He was still wearing the same clothes and shoes as when he was reported missing, Shanghai Television reported.

Police reportedly said Qin seemed to be "experienced” in dodging the security cameras in the public as he's found to have turned round and left immediately after seeing security cameras. Police assumed he might have learned from previous experiences when he also left home without telling anyone.

When police arranged a reunion at a police station, neither of the father and son seemed emotional and the father said he would communicate more with the child, Shanghai Television reported.

He was reported missing after leaving a residential complex in Minhang District at about 3:30pm on August 8.

Qin was last seen at Lotus International shopping center at 4:55pm before he was found.

Qin speaks Chinese and Japanese. He was born in Japan and returned to his native Shanghai when he was six years old, his father said.

He is a student of Minhang Experimental Elementary school and also trains as an athlete at a sports school. He had a training session that afternoon. His father said he blamed him that day for “being slow."
