Jealous husband burns 2 while trying to torch card parlor
A MAN who suspected his wife of having an affair at an entertainment emporium in Qingpu District was detained for causing burn injuries to two men and himself while attempting to set the business on fire, police said.
The suspect, surnamed Zhu, carried a gasoline tank to a chess and card center on Fuquanshan Road, Zhonggu town of Qingpu District at 9:10pm on March 17.
As Zhu poured gasoline on the center’s gate, the owner, surnamed Lu, and Lu’s son tried to stop him and scrambled for the tank. The gas spilled on all three before Zhu took out a lighter and ignited it, police said.
Zhu escaped before police and firefighters arrived. The fire was put off quickly and Lu and his son were sent to Shanghai Ruijin Hospital. The son suffered slight burns but the father was admitted for further treatment.
Police said witnesses told them of Zhu’s identity, and they found him at the emergency room of the same hospital at 11pm. Zhu, who went for treatment of his burns, was accompanied by his brother, who had no idea how he got injured, police said.
Zhu’s wife is a frequent customer of the entertainment business. Zhu, suspecting her of infidelity, went to the center to look for her and started the fire, police said.
