Jinshan Beach ready to expand

WITH the new season soon to get under way at Jinshan City Beach, its operators are making plans to increase the amount of space available to swimmers.

From next year, a new swimming area will be designated on the west side of Lipu Road. Measuring 6.5 hectares it will be more than three times the size of the current area.

It will have a 1.2-kilometer coastline and feature a 10 hectare safety buffer between it and the open sea.

News of the proposed expansion is likely to be well received by local swimmers, who have in the past been known to joke that taking a dip at the Jinshan is beach more like having a bath than going for a swim.

This year, the beach will open from June 10 to August 31, and as always since 2011, admission is free.

The site attracted 2.6 million tourists last year, with weekends and late July being the busiest times, its management company said.
