Jinshan seeks plans for coastal city sub-center

JINSHAN District government plans to develop its coastline into a city sub-center with office buildings, tourism spots and cultural venues, the district’s urban planning body announced yesterday.

The district, the most southwest region of Shanghai at Hangzhou Bay, will mainly focus on developing the 7.2 kilometers of shoreline beside the Jinshan Railway Station hub, the Jinshan planning and land authority said.

The district government yesterday invited interested parties from around the globe to submit their plans to develop one of the city’s most outlying areas into a major service provider center in the Yangtze River Delta region.

The coastal development will involve the Jinshan City Beach and the Jinshanzui Fishing Village — its two 4A level national tourism destinations — as the major attractions to tourists.

Office buildings, recreational tourism and cultural venues such as theaters and art galleries will be built along the coastline.

“The coastal area will become a presentation area for the image of Jinshan District, while most of the area will be open to the public,” the announcement from the planning authority said.

The first phase for development proposals will cover from south to Jinshan New City and north to the Hangzhou Bay — a total of 5.8 square kilometers, the authority said.

Candidates should have national registered planner certificates or senior certificates from abroad at the same level, and should have a base in China, the announcement said.

Those who have experience in beach area and railway station planning will be preferred, it said.

Candidates can apply through December 18 at the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute on 433 Baotun Road in Huangpu District.

They can also call 021-23135581 or e-mail linzhen@supdri.com.

Jinshan beach can be reached from downtown by the Jinshan Railway at the Shanghai South Railway Station, getting off at Jinshanwei Station.

From there, it’s a five-minute shuttle bus ride.
