Knifepoint kidnap suspects arrested

TWO men who kidnapped a woman driver at knifepoint in Baoshan District and held her for five days while demanding a 500,000 yuan (US$82,700) ransom have been arrested, Baoshan District People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.

Police say the suspects, surnamed Sun and Qin, kidnapped their victim, surnamed Lin, on October 19 as she parked her Volvo, having followed her. They took Lin, who is in her 50s, to an apartment in eastern Shandong Province and kept her there while attempting to get the ransom from her family. Police freed Lin unharmed after being alerted by her family. Sun also confessed that he attempted to committed another kidnapping on October 4.
