Korean drama appeal leads to traffic chaos
MINHANG District police yesterday said between January and March they logged 1,832 illegal parking incidents on Hongquan Road, known for its Korean-style restaurants, after fans of Korea dramas swarmed there to taste Korean cuisine.
At dinner time, the four-lane, 1.3-kilometer-long road was fully parked with private cars on both sides, causing severe traffic jams. The situation got even worse when parents came to pick up their children from a nearby school.
Minhang police sent more officers to guide traffic in the area and crack down on illegal parking. As a result, instances of illegal parking decreased dramatically this month.
