Lanes closed for bridge repairs

WUSONG Bridge over Yunzaobang Creek in Baoshan District will be partially closed while it undergoes a 12-month renovation program, police said yesterday.

Two of its nine lanes will be cordoned off between 6am and 10pm daily, they said, adding that the bicycle lane will be merged with the pedestrian walkway for the duration of the repair work.

Trucks weighing more than 8 tons will not be allowed on the bridge between the hours of 7am and 9am and 4:30pm and 6:30pm, police said, adding that an exit lane from the Yixian Road elevated highway located close to the bridge will also be closed until next year.

The bridge, which was built in 1898, has been in need of renovation for some time as the volume of traffic it handles is far above its designed capacity.
