Leather gets leathering over quality
NEARLY a third of leather clothing items checked by the city’s quality watchdog were substandard, including some sold at big malls like Jiuguang and Pacific Department Store.
They failed for tearing too easily, substandard durability, as well as poor color fastness, said Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau.
It tested 50 batches of leather clothing, and 13 failed tests.
A batch of clothing labeled “NEXY.CO” sold at Jiuguang Department Store failed for leather tear force, while another batch labeled “H.GENTEEL” and sold at the same department store was judged substandard for poor color fastness to rubbing.
A batch of clothing labeled “ELLASSAY” and sold by Shanghai Pacific Department Store Co Ltd also failed for leather tear force, while a batch of clothing labeled “MEINGRACE” sold at Shanghai No. 1 Department Store was found to have substandard color fastness to rubbing, the bureau said.
