Line 13 to be in service this year

METRO authorities are hopeful of starting the trial run and even operation of the last phase of Line 13 sometime this year.
With the “shield machine” digging through the underground space between Chengshan and Dongming road stations in the Pudong New Area on February 2, the second and third phase of tunnel construction of Metro Line 13 has been completed.
“The tunnel construction between these two stops was more difficult than others,” according to a Metro officer.
“Multiple pipelines went through the area, and the ground traffic was very busy,” he said.
The space above the tunnel for a receiving pit to retrieve the shield machine was narrow, making the tunnel work harder.
The workers managed to avoid damaging pipelines and minimized the impact on the ground traffic.
“We planted extra steel tracks to help retrieve the shield machine,” the Metro officer said.
Work on tracks and installing electric equipment will start soon.
Line 13 will run through downtown and connect the urban and suburban areas.
The first phase and part of the second phase of Line 13 from Jinyun Road Station in Jiading District to Shibo Avenue Station in the Pudong New areas were put into service in 2015.
