Lingang theme park will create 10,000 new jobs

ABOUT 10,000 jobs are set to be created with the development of a new theme park in the Lingang area of Pudong, the district government said yesterday.

The attraction, which will be developed by the Lujiazui Group, will span 1 square kilometer and feature gardens, hotels, duty free shops and an outlet mall, officials told Pudong Times.

The new park is part of a 30-billion-yuan (US$4.95 billion) development project in Lingang, which includes the construction of the Shanghai International Conference and Exhibition Center, and a bonded products exhibition and trade center to serve the free trade zone.

Officials in Lingang have said they hope to attract 6 million visitors to the new town by the end of 2016.

Located in a remote part of the Pudong New Area, Lingang has been almost 10 years in the construction. It has about 3,000 permanent residents, though that could rise to as many as 800,000 in the future.

High-end international communities are slated to be developed in the town, and by 2020 the area is expected to be home to many top-level manufacturing firms engaged in industries such as clean energy, civil aviation and shipping.

Modern services companies, especially those involved in financial facilities, e-commerce, cultural innovation and tourism, are also being targeted.

Lingang is 75 kilometers from downtown Shanghai along the southeast coast at the mouth of Hangzhou Bay. It is connected to the Yangshan Deep-Water Port by Donghai Bridge.
