Local woman repatriated
A LOCAL woman has been repatriated from Taiwan following Chinese mainland’s “Fox Hunt 2014” campaign to crack down on economic crime.
The woman surnamed Ling fled to the island after running up debts to the tune of more than 1.36 million yuan (US$217,600), prosecutors in Huangpu District said yesterday. The woman who became addicted to gambling in 2003, had applied for more than 10 credit cards to fund her addiction. She also borrowed money from her colleagues as her credit card bills soared. Ling eventually fled with her daughter to Taiwan on August 30 last year but was arrested four months later.
