Lonely hearts given just one shot at love in 2015

THE Shanghai Love and Marriage Fair will be held just once this year, its organizers said.

For the past three years, the event has been biannual.

The Shanghai Matchmaking Association, which organizes the event, did not give a specific date but said the fair will be held at a shopping mall in Qingpu District.

Last year, the event was held at the World Expo Park, said Zhou Juemin, director of the association.

But as the park is close to the downtown area and offers convenient public transport links, more people are likely to attend, so the decision was taken to move it further away, she said.

Because of the New Year’s Eve tragedy on the Bund which killed 36 people and injure 49 others, the number of people allowed to visit the marriage fair will be limited to between 8,000 and 10,000 a day, Zhou said.

The fair has been running since 2011. The most recent event in December attracted nearly 30,000 people, more than half of them women.
