Major work on Line 9 extension completed
A PASSAGEWAY for a tunnel on the eastern extension of Metro Line 9 was completed early yesterday, Metro operator Shanghai Shentong Group said.
Shentong said it expected the third phase of extension to be ready and operational by the end of 2017.
Shanghai Metro is adding another 216 kilometers to the city’s network by 2020.
The new underground extension on Line 9 stretches 13.82 kilometers, starting from Yanggao Road M. Station and ends at Caolu Station. It will have nine stops, including one that will be shared with Line 14, which is under construction, and another with Line 12.
After the completion of the third phase, Line 9 will stretch nearly 70 kilometers, crossing over multiple residential complexes and transportation hubs including Songjiang New Town, Xujiahui, Century Avenue, Jinqiao and Caolu.
Work is also underway at the south extension of Line 5, third phase of Line 8, second and third phases of Line 13, Line 14, 15, 17 and 18.
