Malfunction causes minor delay on Line 3

A malfunction caused a minor delay on Line 3 at Hongqiao Road Station this morning.

A pantograph malfunctioned due to contact with a wire, according to Metro operators. A pantograph is a jointed framework conveying a current to a train, streetcar, or other electric vehicle from overhead wires.

The Metro operator said the train was evacuated and it took 11 minutes for repairs to be completed.

Some commuters who witnessed the incident claimed the train emitted some smoke. However, the Metro operator said sparks from the pantograph could have combined with water vapor in the air, which produces a burned out smell but no smoke.
